At Southern Guide to Life, our editors and writers are constantly on the lookout for magazine perfect vintage items that can be recreated at home.  So you can imagine our reaction when one of our editors stumbled upon this beautiful table.

What do you do with two old fashioned vintage washboards and scrap beadboard?  If you are Melissa Luukkonen, owner of The Little Green Bean blog and online store you turn them into a one-of-a-kind sofa table, of course!

Southern Guide to Life ~ Washboard Side Table

Melissa bought an assortment of vintage washboards at a yard sale and needed to use them before her husband made them “disappear forever.”

She used the washboards legs as the feet for her table.  Beadboard served as the top and inner shelf, giving the table stability, while scraps of wood acted as bracing.

Melissa painted the boards a pale green color to match the natural patina of the antique washboards and allowed to dry.  She then brushed on a coat of stain and wiped it off with a rag to create an antiqued finish.

The finished product looks as though it may have been an antique handed down through generations of family.  One thing is certain – this is a table that will be a conversation piece in any room of the house.
