Oak Ridge, TN – Step back in time to the golden age of American rail travel in one of the more unique and romantic Valentine’s Day ideas we’ve seen.
The Southern Appalachia Railroad Museum is once again offering their exclusive Valentine’s Dinner Trains aboard the fully restored ‘Secret City Scenic Excursion Train,’ pulled by a vintage 1950’s Alco diesel locomotive.
Passengers will begin their approximately 1.5 hour journey aboard the 1947 air-conditioned Southern Railway coach, Fort Oglethorpe, before being ushered into the classic 1920’s Pullman dining car. There, they will meet elegantly dressed servers who will seat them at tables topped with white linens, fine china and a single red rose.
Passengers will have a choice of four “deliciously different” entrées as part of a full course dinner prepared by private Chef Andras.
The Southern Appalachia Railroad Museum offers the only train in the world to journey through a secret Manhattan Project site, the classified research project undertaken by the United States and the United Kingdom to develop a nuclear weapon.
The all-volunteer, non-profit organization is dedicated to the “preservation, restoration, and operation of historical railroad equipment, and the preservation of the railroad history of the Southern Appalachia Region.” They operate train excursions from February through December with all proceeds going to the museum’s operation and the restoration of historic railroad equipment.
