Fresh from last year’s blockbuster success, ‘The Bible‘, producers Mark Burnett and wife, actress, and producer, Roma Downey, prepare to bring the extraordinary life of Jesus to the silver screen in the new movie ‘Son of God‘, opening nationwide on February 28th.
“A story larger than life needs to be experienced larger than life,” said Burnett during a promotional taping announcing the new movie.
Through their company, Lightworkers Media, Burnett and Downey brought the epic television miniseries ‘The Bible‘ to audiences around the world. Garnering 3 Emmy® nominations, the series became the number one cable entertainment telecast of 2013. It went on to become one of the fastest selling TV-to-disc titles ever released. The series used a unique blend of action, drama, and visual effects to retell the Bible from Genesis, through to the Gospels, in a way that was relevant to today’s audience.
“When we were shooting in Morocco and filming the story of Jesus, we knew then that we had something very very special,” said Downey, best known for her roles as Monica in the series ‘Touched by an Angel,’ and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in the miniseries ‘A Woman Named Jackie.’ “Something that deserved to be seen in a shared experience.”
Unlike ‘The Bible‘ miniseries, which spans the full scope of the Holy text, ‘Son of God’ focuses on the life of Jesus from his humble birth, through to his teachings, Crucifixion, and Resurrection. It promises to retell the life of Jesus in the scope and scale of an action epic, featuring “powerful performances, exotic locales, dazzling visual effects and a rich orchestral score from Oscar®-winner Hans Zimmer.”
The Son of God opens nationwide February 28, 2014. Click her to reserve your advanced tickets.
